"There's nothing here to demonstrate a willingness to dive into the clay and really create something."
There is nothing in Flight Frost that will propel Edwards into the spotlight.
His agility and skill as a singer and guitarist should not be undersold, but there's nothing here to demonstrate a willingness to dive into the clay and really create something. That said, there's a sort of purity in Flight Frost, a well executed desire to simply express himself without the need to mess with innovation or experimentation. Rapidfire minor-key melodies and some nylon strings are all Edwards needs to express years of determination and hard work (and a tour in Russia!), and the results are equal parts rote, goofy, honest and charming.
