Perhaps their greatest achievement is the ability to take such an epic sound and make it so captivating and instantly likeable.

Theme Park may have been meant as an upbeat, feel-good album, however, it falls short of the mark.

It’s certainly Williams’ voice penetrating the cleanly produced album. But it’s a different, more refined Williams who’s cast aside his distortion peddle in favour of a tighter, all-over sound.

Many will despise it – but it’s arguably the most fun Autechre have ever provided on record.

There’s no denying that Birds Of Tokyo have maintained their ability to write a heartfelt, catchy, beautiful tune, or an album’s worth for that matter.

Now if only they could finally bring themselves around for an Aussie tour...

Malabar, whilst more adventurous and confident than Songs, still suffers from not being wholly cohesive as an album.

It neither breaks molds nor disappears up any art-pop orifices. But like the best pop music, it’s designed to be consumed and disposed of responsibly.
