Yung Milla – a Marranunggu artist hailing from Darwin – has become the first-ever rapper to win The Voice Australia.
He was crowned the winner on Sunday night (27 September), clinching the win against fellow competitors Daisha Auda, Tommy Novak and The 60 Four. With his win, he takes home a $100,000 cash prize and a recording development package from Hive Studios, plus access to A&R and label services.
During the Grand Finale episode, Yung Milla performed Tupac’s Changes and joined his coach, Melanie C, for a rendition of her 2000 single, Never Be the Same Again, which was originally recorded with the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. Yung Milla performed Lopes’ rap verses.
Last month, Yung Milla auditioned for The Voice Australia by performing an original track, All My Life, penned by his brother, J Milla. He turned all four coaches’ chairs before joining Melanie C’s team.
Other highlights from Yung Milla’s time on the show included performing Gangsta’s Paradise during the Knockouts, Pray for Me in the quarter-finals, and reworking Men At Work’s Down Under for his semi-final performance.
The semi-final performance utilised yidaki and a choir. Plus, it featured original rap verses and storytelling about his upbringing and family before Melanie C selected the rapper for the Grand Finale.
Commenting on his win, Yung Milla said, “I just can’t believe it. I’m just so grateful.”
He added, “I came here as a rapper from Darwin to share my story, my struggles, things that happen where I’m from and reach different audiences around Australia.”
On Instagram, he wrote, “I DID IT MY PEOPLE FOR ALL THE STRUGGLES AND HARD TIMES IT PAID OFF! MY NAMES YUNG MILLA AND IM THE WINNER OF THE VOICE 2026.”
