"We simply cannot safely execute this year’s event."
Despite restrictions lifting and Yours & Owls Festival gearing up for a huge 2022 event, extreme weather has stepped in with other plans, resulting in this year’s festival being cancelled just days out.
Originally set to take over Wollongong’s Stuart Park this weekend with the likes of Hilltop Hoods, Benee, Bliss & Eso, Flight Facilities, The Jungle Giants and more, organisers have announced “with total exhaustion and sadness” that flooding has forced them to can the highly anticipated festival.
“With the amount of water that has landed on Stuart Park in the past few weeks, the flash flooding we experienced in The Gong over the weekend and the forecast for the rest of this week, we simply cannot safely execute this year’s event,” reads a statement.
“We have been pumping water off the site, developing other management and mitigation plans, even using the SCG’s famous Super Sopper, but nothing has been a match for the formidable force of La Niña.
“After lengthy consultation with relevant stakeholders and emergency services and no appropriate alternate event site in the area, we are left with no option other than a full cancellation.”
