Sydney has secured the exclusive rights to her new show.

More Yoko Ono More Yoko Ono

The 2013–14 Sydney International Art Series has just received an injection of star power, as the infamous Yoko Ono has confirmed she will exhibit her new solo show War Is Over! (ifyou want it) at Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art next year.

The exhibition has been curated by the MCA's Rachel Kent and features work that Ono has produced over the space of the past five decades across a variety of different mediums.

"The exhibition reaffirms Ono's firm belief in the power of human agency – specifically, people's ability to dream of and work towards a better future together," Kent said of the show in a statement released today.

The 79-year-old Ono was born in Tokyo, but moved to New York City in the early 1950s where she became a big part of the city's vibrant avant-garde scene at the time. While she has been prolific in her diverse artistic career, she will always be remembered as the wife of the late John Lennon and for the pro-peace activities the two championed during their time together in the 1960s and '70s. That theme of peace continues to run through her work to this day, which will be evident in this show.
