The band or setting off for three shows in support of 'The Only Ones' in September

More Woodlock More Woodlock

Melbourne three-piece Woodlock are set to head along the east coast on three headline tour dates this September in honour of newly released new single The Only Ones, it has been announced.

The emotive new track opens on minimalist instrumentation, as reverberating piano chords and barely-there percussion accompany ethereal, evocative vocals before the soundscape widens — and the pace picks up — considerably in time for the first chorus, pulling the listener with it. It's a well-constructed exercise in variable dynamics, and sits in sincere contrast to the deliberately goofy album art. Looking at the technicolour imagery of the band members barefoot, pulling faces and covered in paint, it's safe to say that finding a track of such evident musical maturity within the package is the most pleasant kind of surprise.

That said, maybe it shouldn't have been so unxpected — after all, The Only Ones was written and recorded with Lindsey Jackson (Tori Kelly, Bertie Blackman) at The Stables Studios, with mixing from Robby De Sa (5 Seconds Of Summer, Tina Arena) and mastering from Studios 301's Steve Smart (Vance Joy, Josh Pyke), so its pedigree is certainly indicative of high-class fare even on paper.

The trio will take their new goods on the road from Thursday 15 September, when they get under way at Brisbane's Black Bear Lodge. From there, they head down to Sydney to play Plan B on 16 September, landing back home for the final show of the whirlwind jaunt on 17 September at Northcote Social Club.
