More Wolf & Cub More Wolf & Cub

With more than 300 live music events across 100+ venues, Adelaide’s epic Umbrella: Winter City Sounds program paints a comprehensive picture of the state’s thriving creative scene.

Among the artists on this year’s line-up are psychedelic rockers Wolf & Cub, and frontman Joel Byrne lists his top five Umbrella events for us.

Wintersteady 2017 @ Crown & Anchor

"We’re playing in Adelaide for the first time in three years so I'm excited about that, alongside Party Dozen (from Sydney who are currently my favourite Australian band), Glass Skies and The Dunes are playing so it’s a pretty decent bill to be apart of.”

Scouted @ Adelaide's East End

28 July

“A great initiative created by Music SA to put some of the best upcoming SA acts in front of some key national industry figures, what's not to like about this one."

Set to coincide with the AIR Awards and the inaugural two-day music industry conference to be held in Adelaide on July 27 and 28, Scouted will showcase South Australia’s most prominent, unsigned and original artists in front of the country’s music industry leaders, renowned Australian independent musicians and admiring fans.

Featuring: Bec Stevens, Mane, Heaps Good Friends, Timberwolf, Electric Fields and more.

Monkey House @ Gunson Street Car Park

29 July

"Keen on seeing what kind of event these guys (Swirl Records) can put on, I’m a fan."

Swirl Records and Ghostnote Studios proudly present an evening of straight AUS Garage and Punk. Aptly named Monkey House, this will be a primal celebration in the concrete jungle of Gunson Street Car Park.

Featuring: Horror My Friend, Dumb Punts, Hideous Sun Demon and more.

Shaolin Afronauts @ The Gov

28 July

Shaolin Afronauts present an epic expanded ensemble of 18 musicians performing original works from Quest Under Capricorn in their entirety as well as new works that mark the development of the group over the past five years.

"Great SA Band (expanded 18-piece line-up) performing a classic record; makes sense to be excited about it."

Dark Matter

21 July

"I know it's held in z-ward, which most South Australians know as being part of the 'Glenside Hospital for the criminally insane' so that instantly has me curious about it."

Dark Matter will host a myriad of demanding performances and installations in the realm of experimental art deep inside the spine-chilling, abandoned insane asylum, the Z-Ward.

Featuring: Kusum Normoyle (SYD), Isomer, Eyes More Skull Than Eyes and more.

Umbrella Winter City Sounds runs from July 14 – 30. Head to the Umbrella website for more information and tickets.
