Two club dates on this unique performer's first Australia jaunt.
Willis Earl Beal is one of the more unique musicians to have presented himself to the indie world in the past couple of years. The Chicago native became renowned for his phone calls and his drawings; both of which he would give to his fans upon request. Call him and he'd sing you a song, write to him and he'd send you a drawing.
He released his debut album proper Acousmatic Sourcery earlier this year through the much respected XL Recordings label, a record that saw him compared to Tom Waits, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Sun Ra and a whole swag of other diverse artists who all dance around the rough, R&B/soul side of music.
His first visit to Australia is on the cards for the Falls Festival and today two sideshows have been announced. The dates are below, tickets are on sale now.
Wednesday 2 January – Northcote Social Club, Melbourne
Thursday 3 January – Goodgod Small Club, Sydney
