That video is balls out awesome

It’s that time of year again when Australians stop and take a moment to decide which song they think should take out the number one prize in triple j’s annual Hottest 100 competition.

Voting for the competition has officially opened with a bang. Video producers at triple j have put together a DIY-style Hottest 100 trailer that features everything from explosions and lasers, to kidnappings and car chases - plus a host of local and international artists all vying for the top prize.

The star-studded list of past Hottest 100 winners includes international stars Gotye (Somebody That I Used To Know), Macklemore and Ryan Lewis (Thrift Shop), Vance Joy (Riptide), and most recently, Chet Faker (Talk Is Cheap).

Triple j have also taken care to introduce a little rule to prevent people trolling the votes, like they did last year with Taylor Swift's Shake It Off. The rules state, "Votes made as part of a competition that promotes a song or artist, or a campaign that undermines the Hottest 100 may be disqualified or ignored … We want genuine votes, from genuine listeners. If we feel something’s preventing that from happening, we’ll look into it for you and take appropriate action."

Once again, voters will go into the draw for a chance to win triple j’s Golden ticket. The highly sought after prize grants the lucky recipient and a friend access into every single triple j supported gig in 2016. This includes Laneway Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Groovin The Moo, Kendrick Lamar, Hilltop Hoods and Gang Of Youths to name a few.

Triple j have again extended their generous hand out to supporting AIME - a mentoring programme that helps indigenous kids through high school and into university, training and employment at the same rate as every Australian child - effectively closing the gap. Voters will have the opportunity to make a donation to AIME after they cast their vote, or alternatively, rock an exclusive AIME/triple j T-shirt with all proceeds going straight to AIME.

The countdown for the competition will begin on Australia Day on 26 January - be sure to cast your vote here
