We Want The Funds: A Crowdfunding Update

26 March 2013 | 2:36 pm | Dan Condon

Getting married? Why not have a member of My Chemical Romance officiate?

To follow on from last week, you'll be pleased to hear that Toni Childs did manage to smash through her $100,000 goal in the end and, as such, her vision of a magical stage show will become a reality. We're not sure how many people she'll have to have staying at her house now though…

Also, congratulations to Jen Cloher who reached her goal through the week for the completion of her new record which we featured two weeks ago. Jolly good show.

If you're crowdfunding, give us a yell and maybe we can help get the word out for you.

Name: Usurper Of Modern Medicine
Project: Film a clip in Japan
Current Status: 65% ($2635) of $4000 goal funded

Perth electronica/post-rock ensemble Usurper of Modern Medicine have a plan to make a new film clip, which is fine, but they need to go to Japan to make it happen and that's expensive. Directed by the band's songwriter/vocalist/bass player Steven Aaron Hughes, the clip will feature a combination of live action and luscious animation and will see them working with Japanese Producer, Art Director and Costume Designer Yuhi Kim.

The band are paying for their flights and those of their crew, but a project as epic as this unsurprisingly needs further funding in order for it to come together. It looks like it will be pretty special.

If you're willing to part with $1800, Blue Forest Media, who are producing the Usurper clip, will produce, shoot and edit a video for you, a service that'd set you back around six to ten grand usually. For $1000 the band will take you into the desert and make you a part of a big drum circle jam or for just $80 you can get a gift from Japan courtesy of the band.

Name: Reggie & The Full Effect
Project: No Country For Old Musicians (new album)
Current Status:  ($29,986) of $50,000 goal.

James Dewees has been a member of a lot of bands: The Get Up Kids, My Chemical Romance, New Found Glory, Leathermouth and Coalesce, to name a few, but the cult adoration of his solo project Reggie & The Full Effect is something to behold – people fucking love this guy.

He has turned to his fans to fund his latest album through Kickstarter and he's offering some pretty awesome/hilarious rewards in return. Sure, you can get the usual downloads, physical copies, t-shirts, Skype calls and such. But there's also an option where you'll receive holiday greeting cards throughout the year and access to cooking tips, you can have Dewees add keys to a song of yours for $250, he'll write you a song for $1,000 and will play a show for you for $2,500.

But the ultimate perk is the $7,000 one and this is certainly one for the true believers. Reggie will officiate your wedding (he became licensed to do so to marry Mikey Way and Alicia Simmons in 2007), sort out all the music for the ceremony and DJ at your reception.

Name: Twilight Americana Music Festival
Project: Twilight Americana Music Festival
Current Status: Ongoing

The Twilight Americana Music Festival is taking place in Athens, Georgia in about four weeks' time, coinciding with a pro-bike race that takes place in the city at that time, and they have decided to try Pledge Music as a method of selling tickets. Depending on how much Americana fans are willing to pledge, they can gain guaranteed entry into a number of events and pick up a bunch of perks to sweeten the deal.

The festival is headlined by Leon Russell and Deer Tick and pledges over $75 get guaranteed entry to both of their shows. Go above that and you have VIP bar access, packs of records and DVDs from New West Records and entry to all the shows that the festival presents throughout its five day duration.

How long until we see festivals in Australia crowdfunding?

Name: Bruce Odland
Project: Save The Tank
Current Status: 59% ($24,985) of $42,000 goal

In the hills on north-west Colorado is a big, old, rusted steel water tank and a small group of Coloradoans are looking for $42,000 to help keep it maintained. Why? In 1976 sound artist Bruce Odland discovered the tank and the somewhat otherworldly acoustics that it possesses. A rich 40 second reverberation makes it the perfect place for certain sounds and music to be recorded, it is quite unlike anything anywhere else.

The money will be used to secure it, to keep it clean, to add solar power to it and to open it up more to the community. It's quite a unique project and, while they've raised a lot, they've got some way to go.

Remember, if you're crowdfunding at the moment, let us know about it!
