WATCH: This Death Metal Band Are Fighting For Taiwan's Independence

A new documentary set to air on ABC next week will take viewers behind the scenes of Taiwan’s ongoing struggle for independence, specifically the movement being led by a cult death metal band.

Described as “Taiwan’s answer to Peter Garrett”, politician and Chthonic frontman Freddy Lim is the focus of Foreign Correspondent’s Death Metal Diplomacy special, airing at 8pm next Tuesday, August 13, before being available via iView.

Lim has been banned from playing in Hong Kong and on the mainland, noting: “We have no choice. We can't give up because Taiwan is our home. We have nowhere to escape. We just have to try to protect our way of life.”
