If nothing else, the Amazon-produced drama has good taste
Vance Joy is getting a little help from our American friends in raising his already-impressive international profile, with his recent single Mess Is Mine featuring prominently throughout the trailer for forthcoming Amazon drama Transparent.
The syncing of Mess Is Mine, which plays across pretty much the entire two-and-a-half minutes of the show's trailer, is yet another feather in Joy's now-well-plumed cap, with his Dream Your Life Away LP just being granted Feature Album status on national youth broadcaster triple j to boot.
For its part, Transparent was one of six shows greenlit by the fledgling Amazon Studios production house this year, and stars Arrested Development alumnus (and generally renowned actor) Jeffrey Tambor as patriarch Mort, who, after a lifetime of inner struggle admits to himself, and his family, that he is trangender. Following a well-received pilot earlier this year, Amazon picked the show up for a full first season, which follows Mort and his family in the wake of his revelation and is due to premiere in September.
From the trailer, the show appears like it will be a poignant, sharp, darkly comic and honest look at life beyond the gender binary; whether or not it's successful remains to be seen (and, even then, it's unclear how Aussies will get to see it in the first place, with Amazon Prime not being a service offered Down Under), but you certainly can't fault the intent (or that gut-punch of a last line).
