Green DayThe trailer for Nimrods – the Green Day-inspired coming-of-age film – is finally here.
Starring the band’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool, fans will see them in a whole new light, inspiring a would-be, start-up band played by actors Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust.
Members of Green Day grant the young outfit the opportunity of a lifetime in the film, offering them the chance to open for their idols on a New Year’s Eve show after hearing their demo tape.
The burgeoning trio don’t just pass their cassette to Green Day; they also need to embark on a classic Hollywood journey of a road trip across the US, filled with excitement and misadventures.

Nimrods lands in US cinemas on Friday, 14 August.
Nimrods premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September under its original title, New Year’s Rev. Reviewing the film, SF Gate’s Dan Gentile wrote, “New Year’s Rev doesn’t necessarily reinvent the teen comedy formula, but as far as Green Day fanfic goes, it hits all the right notes.”

Lee Kirk directed the forthcoming film, and, in addition to the rocking young trio trying to impress Green Day and the band members themselves, the cast includes Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Jenna Fischer and Bobby Lee.
Green Day brought their Saviors tour—which included performances of American Idiot and Dookie in their entirety—to Australia last March.
Reviewing their show at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, The Music’s Claire Dunton remarked, “As the crowd emptied Marvel Stadium, the crowds were buzzing with the most uniform-looking attendees we had ever seen. A sea of Green Day band shirts celebrating the 2024/2025 tour, as well as previous work tours, was seen on all ages, eager to wear a piece of a band important to so many.”
