You’ve never heard Amyl And The SniffersSecurity like this.

Taking over triple j’s Like A Version, American dance-meets-hip-hop duo Joey Valence & Brae put a dance-inspired twist on the pub rock classic, pumping up the synths to replace the guitar riffs.

The pair exchange lines, embracing Amy Taylor’s distinctive energy while putting their own spin on the performance. It’s bass-driven dance-punk. It’s goofy and undeniably lovable, and should feature in all the duo’s future setlists.

While they were in the ABC’s studio, the pair discussed the decision to cover Security.

“Just has so much energy. As soon as you hear it, you want to bounce off the wall,” Brae said. “So, we knew we had to cover that one.”

Commenting on Amy Taylor as a performer, he added, “She’s such a badass. Like, I love her wardrobe. I love her attitude.”

Valence said, “It’s just raw energy, and it just sounds glued together in a way that’s not manufactured.”

Brae also said Security is “so dope” because of how loose it sounds and the way Taylor’s voice cracks, then runs off on certain tangents. “It’s not perfect,” Valence quipped, with Brae saying the song sounds “awesome.”

Joey Valence & Brae returned to Australia in April, bringing their HYPERYOUTH World Tour to Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth.

Late last year, the duo released their latest album, HYPERYOUTH, which was produced, mixed, and mastered entirely by Valence in his State College, PA bedroom studio-meets-Pokémon shrine. The album contains the pair’s signature sound of sample-rich layers, boisterous raps, booty-popping bars, and EDM-infused grooves, while also shedding deeper, sharper, and more thoughtful layers.

For their latest album, Joey Valence & Brae collaborated with JPEGMAFIA, Rebecca Black and TiaCorine.

Security was released in July 2021 from Amyl And The Sniffers’ album Comfort To Me. Discussing the album, Taylor said, “If you have to explain what this record is like, I reckon it’s like watching an episode of The Nanny, but the setting is an Australian car show, and the Nanny cares about social issues, and she’s read a couple of books, and Mr Sheffield is drinking beer in the sun.

“It’s a Mitsubishi Lancer going slightly over the speed limit in a school zone. It’s realising how good it is to wear track pants in bed. It’s having someone who wants to cook you dinner when you’re really shattered. It’s me shadow-boxing on stage, covered in sweat, instead of sitting quietly in the corner.”
