Marvel Studios has just dropped the first sneak peek of the upcoming sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy and it looks madcap and action packed enough to make us go, “ooga chaka” (plus baby Groot is cute AF).
All the Guardians are present and accounted for, but Star Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) are the most prominently featured members of the gang in this first glimpse.
As you might expect from a teaser, very little of any substance is revealed, but there are one or two tiny nods to plot points. Gamora’s half-sister Nebula (Karen Gillan), one of the principal baddies of the first installment, is back, sporting some tutti-fruity coloured headgear. Yondu (Michael Rooker) has had his look updated to bring it in line with this character’s comic book counterpart and intriguingly he appears in the trailer alongside Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) implying some kind of schism among the Guardians or perhaps an unexpected alliance.
Don’t be fooled by the “This Summer” release reference as it is, of course, Northern Hemisphere-centric. The official release date is slated for 5 May 2017.
