Watch Alex The Astronaut Perform On Top Of Australia's Tallest Building

Alex The Astronaut has officially taken her music to new heights, becoming the first artist ever to perform live at the peak of the SkyPoint climb on top of Australia’s tallest building - the Gold Coast’s Q1. 

The pop-up performance for SPRINGTIME, the Gold Coast’s new free music festival, also sets a new record for the highest altitude performance in an Australian city, with Alex The Astronaut performing her brand-new single Ride My Bike, at Skypoint on the Q1 building, which stands 322m tall. 

It follows the release of the artist’s phenomenal new album How To Grow A Sunflower Underwater. 

While countless adventurous travellers have made the one-of-a-kind climb to the top of the iconic SkyPoint, which offers stunning 360-degree views of the Gold Coast region including the golden beaches, city skyline, and lush green hinterland, the performance from Alex The Astronaut marks the only time that an artist has been given permission to play live at the very peak of the tower. 

What the performance lacked in physical size - with the platform measuring just seven meters wide and three meters deep - the special acoustic performance of Ride My Bike well and truly made up for it in passion and beauty overlooking the spectacular Surfers Paradise coastline. 

Produced by Major Events Gold Coast, the pop-up SPRINGTIME performance at SkyPoint was several months in the making and marked an important moment for the Gold Coast music scene, which is quickly becoming one of the country's biggest music cities. 

Festival Director Mark Duckworth said the SPRINGTIME team wanted to put together a special and completely unique performance that showcased one of the artists from the SPRINGTIME program and equally celebrated this incredible destination. 

“Alex The Astronaut is a one-of-a-kind artist and was adventurous enough to try this with us, we were the lucky few to see the extraordinary show on the summit of SkyPoint.”

Artist Alex The Astronaut said she was excited to be asked to participate in the live performance. 

"I can't believe how much has gone into making this unique project happen, and I'm honoured to have been asked to participate. I have never done anything like this before. It's just so cool." 

"It was terrifying at first, but if you didn't look down, you were okay. I felt like a human drone looking down on the ocean, and we even saw some dolphins. It was an amazing experience."

"It was strange being over three hundred meters above the SPRINGTIME Festival site and thinking, 'I'm going to be playing down there in September!'"

Backed by unparalleled views of the eastern coastline, Alex The Astronaut’s performance became the unofficial first set for SPRINGTIME, the Gold Coast’s newest 100% free, three-day music festival, which kicks off in less than a month.
