The application to attract more tourists is being contested by WA police
The police have stepped in to halt the WA’s State Theatre Centre application for a new liquor licence that would allow them to serve alcohol to non-ticket holders and increase traffic
WA police commissioner Karl O'Callaghan has intervened in the process that would allow the Centre to sell outside of performances and pre-arranged functions, and thus appeal more to tourists, The West Australian reports.
O'Callaghan has reportedly contested the licence application, saying it doesn't supply sufficient evidence to warrant a similar set up as Sydney Opera House or the Victorian Arts Centre.
Despite Liquor Licensing director Brett Snell describing the venue as unique and attractive to tourists, suggesting the new tavern licence would better suit its needs, O'Callaghan has suggested it will likely result in suggested public disorder or disturbance.
