“I've been told I'm lucky not to have been paralysed."

An unprovoked assault in the Perth suburb of Joondalup last night put music photographer (and long-running contributor for theMusic.com.au) Ash Westwood in hospital.

At around 3am, Westwood was waiting for an Uber outside of Joondalup train station when four males took his phone and wallet and then proceeded to attack him, delivering a king hit and kicks to the head before disappearing and leaving him passed out in the rain.

“I've been told I'm lucky not to have been paralysed,” Westwood told theMusic.com.au.

“They were really stupid, attacked me on government property in full view of CCTV - three of the four are in custody and I will be pressing charges.”

WA Police and Transperth security were said to be on the site and administering first aid within minutes.

Due to the fast-response time from authorities, Westwood’s injuries were minimised and he was discharged this morning.

“The fight only broke one of my cigars so naturally, I had to blaze it up in the triage ward.”

Westwood also publishes automotive magazine The Garage Journal. Check out some of his stunning live music photography here.
