Original line-up reuniting for first time in 16 years
The founding members of US alt-rock icons Veruca Salt have confirmed that their recently announced reunion tour – their first outing together since 1998 – will include a string of shows in the land Down Under come September.
Louise Post, the sole member of the band who has been present for its entire career, will be joined by fellow original faces Nina Gordon, Steve Lack and Jim Shapiro for the reunion, the Australian leg of which kicks off in Brisbane before heading to Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
Since the departure of Shapiro in 1997 and Gordon and Lack in 1998, Veruca Salt saw a number of other faces step into the vacant roles for varying lengths of time, including a stint from the Smashing Pumpkins' former touring member – now full pledge – Nicole Fiorentino. (Fiorentino was one of two bassists used by the band on their 2006 release IV.) So the news that the original four have not only come together again but will be playing on our shores comes as a welcome development for long-time fans of the band.
The band released two new tracks – It's Holy and The Museum of Broken Relationships – on Record Store Day, which provided instant reassurance that the passage of time hasn't smoothed their jagged edges. And, of course, hits and fan favourites such as Seether, Volcano Girls, Shutterbug, All Hail Me, Born Entertainer and Officially Dead have all but been guaranteed to make an appearance.
