More Vacations More Vacations

Aussie band Vacations continue their global domination, this week revealing that their 2016 single, Young, has gone double Platinum in the US.

Sharing the news on social media on Tuesday (3 June), the band wrote alongside a screenshot of the track’s new certification: “x2 platinum in the USA! 🇺🇸

“This is almost impossible to comprehend, thank you all so much for the love and support over the years 🫵🥹✨‼️”

Young stems from the Newcastle outfit’s second EP, Vibes, released in December 2016. In April 2022, Young went viral after being the subject of a TikTok trend. It was quickly certified Gold in the US, Canada, and Poland. Last month, the song went Platinum in Australia. The moment kick-started the band’s international success.

As of June 2023, Young held over 420 million streams and “catapulted” Vacations to become one of Australia’s most-played acts on Spotify.

The news follows Vacations’ covering the Kylie Minogue classic Love At First Sight for Spotify Singles in November 2024. Vacations’ guitarist Nate Delizzotti explained the motivations behind choosing Love At First Sight as their cover, coining it as “one of the best songs in the world.”

He added: “We’re trying to pay homage to the cover, but it's inevitably going to be different because of our respective playing styles [and] our own influences.”

In a 2024 The Music interview discussing their latest album, No Place Like Home, Vacations singer Campbell Burns discussed his move to the US and finding greater success overseas than in Australia.

“My dream when I was a teenager was that I just wanted to play the Enmore Theatre. But we now play venues that are larger than that in the US on a regular basis,” Burns said. “So, I've already surpassed that, which is bizarre to think about.”

He continued, “I mean, I haven't played the Enmore in Australia yet, but…”

When asked if a show at the Enmore was on the cards, Burns responded, “Well, I'd like to think so. If Australia can’t catch up, I dunno. That’s probably why I moved to the US in the first place. There's a lot more going on in the States for the band right now compared to Australia, so it felt like my calling.”
