Australian indie rockers Vacations are already coming back home in July for a special, intimate homecoming, and today, they’ve announced that a new album is on the way.

The new album, Pursuit of Anything, will be released on Friday, 2 October, via Nettwerk. To accompany the announcement, Vacations have unveiled the lead single, Holy Grail, which you can check out below.

Pursuit of Anything was written by the band and produced by singer and lead songwriter Campbell Burns. It captures Vacations at a turning point as the frontman looks back on disorienting, contradictory experiences of growing up in Australia before moving to the US to chase their ambitions.

Burns said of the new single, “Holy Grail was based on a stressful Zoom call we had together as a band last year. We were in this period of wanting to write and record new material, but then also being stuck in a loop of unsustainable touring.

“So many people I know have devoted their entire lives to music, and yet, at times, it can feel as if you’re in pursuit of anything just to make it work for you. This push-and-pull dynamic of something I love so much is fascinating to me.

“I may struggle at times, but I will always return to it because it brings so much joy and fulfilment and ultimately outweighs any negative.”

The new album was mixed by Beatriz Artola (Geese, Caamp), helping the band achieve a richer, more intricate, emotionally resonant collection of songs. It’s a record that turns inward amidst their many sold-out tours and double-Platinum hits, focusing on self-discovery and facing tension head-on.

Explaining the album title, Burns said, “It’s about happiness as a feedback loop. How you keep chasing the next thing.”

You can pre-order/pre-save the album here.

Vacations head home in winter. Their national tour dates begin at Perth’s Freo.Social on Saturday, 11 July.
