UK pop singer Alvin Stardust has died after succumbing to his recent battle with prostate cancer, it's been confirmed.
A statement was released on the musician's official website overnight, confirming that he passed with his wife and family by his side.
"We are very sad to announce that Alvin Stardust, has passed away aged 72," the statement read.
"He died at his home on the morning of Thursday 23 October. His wife, Julie Paton, and his family were with him. Alvin was only recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, knowing this he continued to perform up until the very last week of his life."
Sadly the singer had just completed work on his latest album, titled Alvin, which was to be released next month.
"Alvin was incredibly proud of this album saying rather propehtically that he would die happy having made the album, as it was his best piece of work," the statement continued.
Stardust, born Bernard William Jury, began his musical career in the 1960s, as a member of the band Shane Fenton & The Fentones, achieving moderate success in the UK. His most known work would come in the next decade through his solo work, most notably the single My Coo Ca Choo.
He also dabbled as an actor, appearing in a number of theatre productions and made many TV appearances in the later years of his career.
