Inspired by Edward Hopper, Raymond Carver and Robert Altman

London alternative-rock band Bear's Den are set to release their sophomore album, Red Earth & Pouring Rain, on 22 July via Communion/Caroline Australia.

The follow-up to 2014's Ivor Novello-nominated debut, Islands, was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales with the band's long-term producer Ian Grimble.

For their new record, the band found inspiration in the paintings of Edward Hopper, the novels of Raymond Carver and film director Robert Altman's Short Cuts. Musically, their folk roots have evolved to include '70s and '80s rock vibes a la The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac, with contemporary comparisons drawn to the likes of The National and Sufjan Stevens.

Following the amicable departure of guitarist Joey Haynes, Bear's Den is now a six-piece touring unit centring on its remaining original members, singer-guitarist Andrew Davie and multi-instrumentalist Kev Jones.
