Tropfest Opens Entries For Trop Jr, Tropscore & Tropfest

14 August 2015 | 12:10 pm | Staff Writer

You could win $5,000 and the chance to perform your score!

You've heard of Tropfest, of course, but you may not have heard of Tropscore, Tropfest's five-year-old little brother, Trop Jr, the toddler of the Tropfest family, or #Tropvine, the hyperactive little sister.

Tropscore is a competition urging composers and songwriters to submit their best musical score, in order to win a sync for a film on Tropfest this year, with this year's submissions having just opened.

The short film and blank canvas in question for composers to set their scores to is called Remote, a finalist from 2013's Tropfest, directed by Michael Noonan who will also serve as a judge for Tropscore this year.

The winner will not only hear their music on one of Tropfest's short films, but also have the chance to perform the score live on stage and pick up $5,000 cash. Entries close on 8 October at 6pm AEST, with finalists announced on 12 November.

Trop Jr, on the other hand, is Tropfest for kids — allowing young filmmakers from around the country to bring their ideas to life through the theme (or Signature Item, as they're called), 'Button'.

With the chance for one bright young mind (15 years or under) to win cash money, AFTRS filmmaking courses and much more, Trop Jr entries are also open now and close on 8 October.

Last year's winner Paige Bebee won with her short film, Chance, based on the Signature Item of 'Fly'.

The wisest of the family, Tropfest, has also opened up submissions, with seasoned and up-and-coming filmmakers able to submit their seven-minute short films relating to the Signature Item 'Card' from now until Thursday, 8 October.

An excellent opportunity to let your creativity shine and get noticed, 16 finalists get chosen to screen their films at a huge event marking the occasion.

Also using the Signature Item 'Card', #TropVine was held on Wednesday night with Sydneysider Claudia Pickering picking up the prize pack for her six-second Tropfest creation, a dad-joke-inspired safari clip.

Both Tropfest and the Tropscore performance will be held at Centennial Park in Sydney on Sunday, 6 December, while Trop Jr will be held as a stand-alone event on Saturday, 5 December.
