Triple J's Unearthed High Makes Triumphant Return

If you are a high school student with a passion for music and creation, this is your chance to shine.

Unearthed High, triple j’s annual competition for the best high school age artists from all across Australia, is back this year. And entry is simple: high school age artists must merely upload an original song to their triple j Unearthed profile, and tick the box that confirms that they are an Unearthed High artist.

The star-studded competition has officially been running for over fifteen years. Finalists and winners have included major names such as Genesis Owusu, The Kid LAROI, Teenage Joans, and more.

This year, the Unearthed High Winner will score a songwriting session with one of four top-tier Australian artists, including The Jungle Giants, Peach PRC, Nerve or What So Not, with flights and accommodation to attend the session included. The winner will also receive expert guidance and support from music industry professionals to help take their career to the next level.

Also returning in 2025 is the Unearthed High Indigenous Initiative, which celebrates and supports emerging First Nations talent. This year’s winner will have their next single mixed by Konstantin Kersting (who has worked with Tones And I, The Jungle Giants, and more) and will receive a mentorship from Nooky, artist and host of triple j’s Blak Out.

As Unearthed High 2025 kicks off, triple j will also be unveiling a new show, called Unearthed High Fidelity, set to take place on Thursdays from 3:30 pm AEST. The show will be hosted by Meanjin/Brisbane-based queer indie pop-rock artist and 2023 Unearthed High Finalist, ixaras.
