Back in April, triple j Drive hosts Abby Butler and Tyrone Pynor shocked listeners by announcing that the station’s beloved concert series, One Night Stand, would return later this year.

One Night Stand is returning after a five-year absence, and today, triple j has offered you the chance to save the date: one regional Australian town will be home to the concert on Saturday, 14 September. Venue and line-up details will be announced later this month.

The date for this year’s event was mentioned this morning on triple j Breakfast with Concetta and Luka. The 2024 edition of One Night Stand will be held in partnership with Music Australia and raise essential funds for the Australian music charity Support Act

Since announcing the return of the concert series earlier this year, triple j has been inundated with a whopping 2,087 submissions from punters, artists, council members, mayors, and local community members who want their town to present One Night Stand. This year’s event is set to be its largest yet.

2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the One Night Stand, which first debuted in Natimuk, Victoria, in July 2004 with a bill featuring GrinspoonThe Dissociatives, and Eskimo Joe.

The concert returned for another gig in a new city every year until 2020 (with the exception of 2015) when a planned event was scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, Lachlan Macara – head of triple j, Double J and ABC Country – said about the return of One Night Stand: “We’re beyond stoked to be bringing back triple j’s One Night Stand in 2024 to continue our support of Australian artists and provide an opportunity for young people in the regions to get around some live music.

“We’re busy working on an incredible line-up sure to create another One Night Stand for the history books and we can’t wait to see where we’ll be heading in 2024.”
