uncharTED is back and it’s bigger than ever! Tooheys Extra Dry (TED) is being supported by the heavyweights of the Australian music industry; including Big Day Out and SONY BMG again this year to help Australia’s young talented bands achieve their wildest dreams to win one of the largest prize pools ever offered to breaking bands in Australia!
uncharTED is one of the most exciting Australian music initiatives – a unique online voting competition through which the Australian public vote on who will make it to the top - YOU bring the bands to the record label rather than the label bringing the bands to YOU!
With close to a million votes cast in uncharTED 2007, uncharTED 2008 looks to be better than ever, with 2000 bands already registered in the first competition. TED are also making the competition even bigger this year by running three separate competitions with three incredible grand prizes!
The uncharTED three grand prizes include:
* Competition One: Running from 4th February to 31st March, has the grand prize of a record deal with the Sony BMG Red Label, a dream for any unsigned band!
* Competition Two: Running from 2nd June to 28th July, the competition two winner will receive a spot at a leading Australian music festival plus an amazing do-it-yourself label package including studio time and management and legal consultancy!
* Competition Three: The winners of the third competition, which runs from 6th October until 1st December, wins the all-important spot on the national Big Day Out tour in 2009!
All finalist bands will perform for the nation at the exclusive TED uncharTED grand final gigs, which will appear on MTV. Winners will also have the chance to join leading Australian bands such as Wolf & Cub, End of Fashion, The Grates, Gerling, The Herd, Midnight Jugganauts, Faker and last year’s winner Krill when they design their very own limited edition TED can for all to see.
In addition, the entire program is a purpose built exposure platform for breaking bands, with all three winning bands getting national media exposure through uncharTED unpreccented press and since this is a genuine A&R development vehicle with the SONY BMG prize, bands even have the chance to be signed without actually winning the competition!
With only a week of public voting left to go before the semi-finalists are announced for round one of the first competition, the call is out for you to get behind your favourite band. Simply log on to www.uncharted.com.au and vote once an hour to give your favourite band a fighting chance at winning prize that is going to make their career! If propelling you favourite unsigned band to stardom isn’t reason enough for you to keep voting uncharTED are giving away a hot new SONY BMG CD to one lucky voter every hour of competition one. So stay online and vote for your favourite up & coming bands while collecting some great music at the same time!
From the bands who have already registered all areas of the music scene are well represented. From pop/rock to indie/alternative to country to reggae to hip hop to dance there is a band to suit everyone’s tastes. And it doesn’t matter what part of the Australia you are from- there are bands taking part from all over the country. So if you are from Perth, Hobart, Adelaide, Sydney, Darwin, Melbourne, Canberra or anywhere in between make sure you check out the bands in your area and get voting to give them a fighting chance at making their dreams become reality!
So how does it work? There are three separate uncharTED competitions, each having its own grand final and major prize. There are a number of steps to climb to make it to the top in each competition:
1. Bands need to upload their tracks and details onto the uncharTED website.
2. It’s then up to the public and the media partners to vote on who they think has what it takes!
3. In each competition the four bands with the most public votes and the four bands with the most votes by the media partners will battle it out in the semi-finals.
4. The top public pick and the top media partner pick with then go head to head in the grand final broadcast live on MTV before the public votes to decide the winner!
Remember if your band doesn’t make it through to the grand final in the first competition keep supporting them because they still have two more chances to emerge as a winner of UncharTED!
KRILL were crowned the winners of the 2007 competition, which saw them battle it out and take victory over 800 other hopefuls. By winning the competition, KRILL secured their future in the music industry by receiving a sought after record label deal with SONY BMG’s Red Label, their name on Tooheys Extra Dry limited edition Big Day Out cans and a spot on the Australian Big Day Out tour! To top it all off, KRILL are just about the release their first album through the SONY BMG Red Label and have already received rave reviews from the Australian media including having the honour of being awarded ‘single of the week’ in The Daily Telegraph.
