After what was a simply phenomenal 2019 for Tones & I, the Aussie songwriter has kicked yet another massive goal this year with her global hit song, Dance Monkey.

The Music can exclusively reveal that the Byron Bay-based songwriter's 2019-released song, which hit #1 in over 30 countries, is now the most streamed song ever by a female artist on Spotify.

While it has ticked over seven billion streams across all streaming platforms, Dance Monkey has now reached over 1.4 billion streams on Spotify alone. This week Dance Monkey jumped ahead of Camila Cabello's Havana and is now currently the eighth-most streamed song of all time on Spotify, sitting behind the likes of Drake's One Dance, Post Malone's Rockstar and the #1 song, Ed Sheeran's Shape Of You (over 2.4 billion streams).

"Seeing Tones surpass seven billion global streams of Dance Monkey within 12 months since release is a monumental achievement and we are incredibly proud of her," Lemon Tree Music and Artists Only, who co-manage Tones worldwide, told The Music in a statement today.

"The management team are very excited for what's to come this year and can't wait for the world to hear the songs Tones has written."

As well as a record-breaking ARIA chart run, Dance Monkey also holds the Spotify record for most days at the top of the global chart for the Swedish-founded platform (120 days).

The news comes on the back of Tones' latest single, Bad Child, which is currently sitting in the top 20 of the ARIA Singles chart.

Tones is also up for four awards at the 2020 APRAs, which will this year be live-streamed on 26 May, including Most Performed Australian Work, Most Performed Pop Work, Peer-Voted APRA Song of the Year and Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year.
