Toby Keith Reveals Shock Cancer Diagnosis

Toby Keith has announced that he is battling stomach cancer. The 60-year-old revealed he was diagnosed late last year but has received treatment and plans to return to the stage soon.

Keith shared on social media, "I've spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax. I am looking forward to spending time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can't wait."

Keith's publicist, Elaine Schock, confirmed that some tour dates will be cancelled, "but I'm not sure how many at this point." Concerts scheduled for June, July, August, and September are still listed on Keith’s website. He was set to kick off his Country Comes to Town tour this week.

The singer has long worked to support those facing cancer diagnoses. 

In 2006, Keith began the Toby Keith Foundation, an organization that streamlines its efforts around no-cost housing for children with cancer. In 2014, the foundation opened OK Kids Korral, a cost-free home for pediatric cancer patients who receive treatment at The Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Centre in Oklahoma. 

Keith released his latest album, Peso in My Pocket, last October. The album includes the lead single Old School, Keb’ Mo’ cover Old Me Better as well as his new single Oklahoma Breakdown.

Co-produced by Keith and Kenny Greenberg, the 10-track album includes songs co-written with Sammy Hagar, former front man of Van Halen, as well as cuts from the Warren Brothers, Ryan Hurd, Maren Morris, Jessie Jo Dillon and more.

To date, Keith has had 42 top 10 hits, 32 number ones, 40 million albums sold and more than 10 billion streams. Peso In My Pocket is his first album in more than five years following the 2015 release of 35 MPH Town. Last year, Keith joined Brantley Gilbert and HARDY for the smash hit, The Worst Country Song of All Time.
