11 April 2018 | 12:36 pm | Staff Writer

The incident occurred last month.

US actor TJ Miller is facing a maximum five-year jail sentence if convicted after he falsely reported a bomb threat while on a New York train last month.

As ABC reports, the comic, who controversially exited hit TV show Silicon Valley last year, called emergency services on 18 March to falsely allege a woman he got into an argument with was carrying a bomb in her luggage .

Miller was arrested at New York's LaGuardia Airport and released on $US100,000 ($129,000) bond following a court appearance in Connecticut.

The 36-year-old is alleged to have made the call to authorities after getting into a "screaming match" with a woman over loud mobile phone conversations.

Investigators said Miller told police, "I am worried for everyone on that train," and "Someone has to check that lady out".

The train was later evacuated, however no explosives were found.

Prosecutors have alleged Miller was drunk at the time of the altercation with the woman.

He is yet to publicly respond to the charges.
