Multiple nods also go to KUČKA, Pond, The Love Junkies and more
Venerated West Australian outfit Timothy Nelson & The Infidels have walked away as the biggest winners at this year's WA Music Awards, taking out an impressive five prizes from a total of seven nominations.
The eclectic ensemble nabbed a slew of high-profile awards, including Best Album (for Terror Terror, Hide It Hide It), Best Pop Act, and Best Guitarist (Luke Dux), with the eponymous frontman making off with Best Keys/Synth Artist and Best Male Vocalist.
Nelson and his motley crew, who also provided a touch of live entertainment, were not the only multiple award-winners on the night, which this year was held at Capitol and hosted by the ever-enthralling Tomàs Ford. Artists joining Nelson & co. as multiple prizewinners were KUČKA, who walked away with three awards — Best Single (Unconditional), Best Electronic Act and Best Experimental Act — as well as Tame Impala offshoot Pond (Most Popular Act and Most Popular Live Act), The Love Junkies (Best Rock Act and Best Drummer, for Lewis Walsh) and The Floors (Best Blues and Roots Act and Best Bassist, for Ryan Dux).

There was plenty of prestige being bandied about the ceremony, too, with the coveted Golden WAMi and annual Management Award both going to Spinning Top founder Jodie Regan, while St Jerome's Laneway Festival was voted by the public to be the region's favourite Event Of The Year (its second year running), while local haunt Mojo's took out the title of Most Popular Venue. Renowned troubadour Abbe May secured the Best Female Vocalist gong, while Hideous Sun Demon stepped out to claim Most Popular New Act.
The evening also saw the induction of renowned industry identity Philip Stevens and long-time Bad Seed/Triffid Martyn P. Casey into the Hall Of Fame.
The WAM celebrations don't stop here, though, with the promise of tomorrow's Saturday Spectacular at Northbridge freshly on the horizon. The shindig will boast 54 acts across seven venues (including an all-ages stage at the Perth Cultural Centre and the inaugural open-air block party at Roe Street's Wilson Car Park), running from midday to midnight, for free. Award-winners such as KUČKA, The Love Junkies, Puck, David Craft and The Floors will all be performing, so well worth a look-see if you're in the area.
