Musician, actor, comedian and writer Tim Minchin has been announced as part of the line-up for Perth International Arts Festival's celebration of local culture, Home.

Home is part of the Lotterywest Festival Opening event, a massive, outdoor theatre spectacular in celebration of landscape, culture and community, held on 13 February and featuring a host of Western Australia’s most acclaimed creative talent, including The Triffids, The Drones, The Panics, Pigram Brothers, The Waifs, John Butler, Kim Scott, Tim Winton, Robert Drewe and Shaun Tan.

“It’s so exciting watching this project grow and develop and working alongside an incredible Western Australian creative team," festival artistic director Wendy Martin said in a statement. "I am thrilled that Tim Minchin – WA’s international megastar – has made the time in his intense schedule to be part of the biggest home grown PIAF opening event ever."

Added Minchin: "I can’t wait to come home for Home. It is incredibly exciting and moving to be involved in a home-grown event on this awesome scale, to be working with the likes of Nigel Jamieson, my old friend Iain Grandage, and the great Richard Walley, and to have the privilege of sharing a stage with such an extraordinary lineup of West Australian performers and artists."
