Finally Returning To Australia, Faithless Are Paying Homage To The Beloved Maxi Jazz While Looking To The Future

This Week's Releases

New albums dropping from Gang Of Youths, Passion Pit and more

Alabama Shakes — Sound & Color (Rough Trade/Remote Control)

The roots rock four-piece have come out with their second record, Sound & Color, this week, worth a cool three-and-a-half stars from our reviewer, Ross Clelland. He says of singer, Brittany Howard — "if unfamiliar, it's one of those voices that comes straight out of her guts and heart and nails you to the wall."

Gang Of Youths — The Positions (Sony)

These young Sydneysiders scored our Album Of The Week this week. The Music's reviewer Roshan Clerke notes, "lead singer Dave Leaupepe's songwriting [is] seemingly endless in its inspiration. Rarely does a writer arrive with such a concrete vision for their art, but Leaupepe bursts onto the scene with a powerful story to tell." The album is receiving rave reviews and we left them with a four-and-a-half stars, too.

Mojo Juju — Seeing Red/Feeling Blue (ABC/Universal)

The Music's reviewer Andrew McDonald found Mojo Juju's newest to be a fine selection of "damned solid vocal jazz", but notes that if you're looking for sounds other than the "tried and true songwriting languages of jazz, pop and blues-rock," you may be disappointed. He gave the album three-and-a-half stars.

Passion Pit — Kindred (Sony)

Kindred is a "super-dense, syrupy, glistening, orgasmic pop behemoth", The Music's Matt MacMaster found, giving the album three-and-a-half stars. The album is "bright and full" with "infantile enthusiasm" and boasts beautiful album artwork, too.
