Empire Of The Sun, Tkay Maidza, Frank Iero, Jack Grace, Dorsal Fins and more
Empire Of The Sun — Two Vines (EMI)
Two Vines has the "shimmering dream-pop" on display that Empire Of The Sun have nailed over their career. The album boasts "bright, primary colours and visions of transcending the human form", in line with Littlemore's vision of "a city reclaimed by nature". They've enlisted Prince's guitarist Wendy Melvoin and Lindsey Buckingham to "end some wondrously sleepy guitar work". We gave it four stars and our Album of The Week.
Tkay Maidza — TKAY (Dew Process/Universal)
TKAY establishes the young Maidza as "one of the most promising artists going around" and a "local star" for Aussie girls and women. She delivers vocals with "unadulterated conviction and intent" and "refuses to be pigeon-holed", though many of the songs aim to be "dancefloor-filling bangers". We gave it three-and-a-half stars.

FRANK IERO and the PATIENCE — Parachutes (Vagrant/Cooking Vinyl)
Parachutes is "sonically removed from his scuzzy solo debut Stomachaches", as "probably Iero's most commercial sounding release". Regardless, the record is "deep, personal and distinctive", as well as "both anxiously vulnerable and unrepentantly rambunctious". It's more "polished", but "ultimately continues his increasingly remarkable streak of strong punk albums". We gave it three-and-a-half stars.
