Suburban Dark - Second Front (Big Village)
We've been streaming this one all week here on theMusic so chances are you've heard this collection of futuristic beats blended with effortless raps. The Sydney duo enlisted the help of a number of their MC pals on this record, their sophomore release. A win for local hip hop and fans alike.
AlunaGeorge - Body Music (Island/Universal)
The Listen Out-bound pair will finally drop a set of full-length material tomorrow on the back of some previous EP releases. They've set out to make you groove with their take on electro-pop on Body Music. There's plenty of '80s and '90s references on the collection of these shimmering tracks.
Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros - Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros (Create/Control)
Late-'60s Cali revival band Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros are back with their third record, bringing with them a set of uplifting gospel-chrous chants, plenty of handclap percussion and a heap of instruments, as per their norm. This though, could very well be their most mature material yet.
The Darling Downs - In The Days When The World Was Wide (Fuse)
The return of Kim Salmon and Ron Peno's The Darling Downs sees a record filled with sadness that, ironically, sounds like it was probably a joy to make. That's not something one achieves easily and with the dark undertones of some of the tracks, props need to be paid to these two veteran musicians on what they've created here.
Gogol Bordello - Pura Vida Conspiracy (ATO/[PIAS] Australia)
Advocates of gypsy punk, Gogol Bordello are back with their first album in three years and it is nice to see they've reverted back to the passionate, energetic sounds of some of their earlier work. You'll feel like dancing but, at times, the tone goes in a more heartfelt, sombre direction. Fans will be pleased.
