Horrorshow — Bardo State (Elefant Traks)

Bardo State is "a sophisticated, sexy, dance-inflected record", with "thrilling" new terrain. Highlights include Astray ("spacious, voluptuous, and properly sexy"), Eat The Cake ("a funked-out dance jam") and My Time, where "the world caves in, the spaceship takes off, the curtain drops, and gritty reality gives way to a dreamscape". We gave it four-and-a-half stars and our Album Of The Week.

Holy Holy — PAINT (Wonderlick/Sony)

PAINT is "something quite special", a "noisy, colourful and exploratory" listen. One half of the act Timothy Carroll "has rarely put a foot wrong in his entire career" and this follows, bearing "all the fingerprints of the pair's" band. With essences of Ball Park Music, Hungry Kids Of Hungary and Emma Louise, "it's a gorgeous listen. Do not miss it". We gave it four stars.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard — Flying Microtonal Banana (Flightless/Remote Control)

King Gizzard's "sweet and simple formula of write a killer hook then repeat, repeat, repeat" is "wearing a little thin", but this album is "something of an experimental release" with its playfulness with microtones. The album may be a little "underwhelming" as there don't "appear to be any anthems here that might dominate the Js the way Gamma Knife did", but we gave it three-and-a-half stars.
