The VeronicasThe Veronicas have taken a step closer to a comeback after inking a new deal with Sony after a less than harmonious relationship with Warner Bros. Records.
The Brisbane twins Jessica and Lisa Origliasso became one of Australia's biggest pop-rock outfits after 2005's album The Secret Life Of… and 2007's Hook Me Up but their third album has been constantly hindered by delays, something the band has repeatedly blamed their American record label Warner Bros for.
Last October they announced their split from the label, saying in a statement “After five years of being in a 'Warner Brothers Records Lockdown', we are officially able to move forward RELEASING and recording music without our past label dictating our creative journey, or withholding our musical releases and touring.”
Celebrating being an independent band at the time, they have now confirmed they've signed with fellow major label Sony Music in a new video.
“It's been a long time coming, but we finally got off our old record label,” they say. “So now we're here in Los Angeles for the next three weeks finishing our record with Sony Music.”
They've recently spent time in Nashville and Los Angeles, recording for their long-overdue third album, which was due last year – but according to the band – Warner were unwilling to release what they'd produced.
Although there's no date set in stone, new music – as evidenced in the video with new track Did You Miss Me – is expected this year.
