The Used have issued a statement following reports the band has filed a restraining order against ex-guitarist Justin Shekoski.

According to TMZ, Shekoski allegedly said he would take his own life during one of the group's show, as well as sending ex-band members threatening texts.

Today, the Utah-founded post hardcore outfit confirmed Shekoski's departure and said they needed to take "the proper legal precautions".

"The safety of our fans, crew and fellow band members is our biggest priority," the statement reads.

"Even and especially in the toughest times, the threat of suicide should never be taken lightly. We ask that you respect the privacy of everyone involved during this process."

It comes after The Used kicked off a headline tour of the US last week.

Shekoski joined the band in 2015 from Saosin, replacing then-lead guitarist Quinn Allman.
