Contemporary art, dance, theatre and music

The Substation in Newport, one of Melbourne's newest multi-arts centres, is set to host an array of avant-garde theatre, contemporary dance, cutting edge music, innovative sound art, interactive exhibitions and installations in the venue's second 2016 season.

Even more eclectic than the first, season two involves artists from a broad spectrum of genres, mediums and nations, including choreographer Lee Serle (New York/Melbourne), DJ/producers DJ Pete (Berlin) and Marcelus (France), audiovisual artist Robbie Thomson (Glasgow) and Queensland-based company Dancenorth

Melbourne ensemble Speak Percussion will debut its new Australian work and composer/performers Robin Fox and Byron Scullin present a world premiere as Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS).

"Audiences will experience contemporary art that inspires an excited and considered conversation about contemporary society," director Brad Spolding said.
