The Stiffys ProfileMelburnian art-rock duo The Stiffys have put their own distinct (and, importantly, respectful) spin on controversial track Literally I Can't, which was released by Redfoo and three other people nobody really seems to care about earlier this week.
In reimagining the original brain-meltingly misogynistic track (which was actually dropped as a Play-N-Skillz track featuring Redfoo) to better suit their garage-based needs, members Jason Leigh and Adam Stagg have managed to boil it down to its key points. They've even helped Redfoo and co. where they really fell short (aka everywhere), especially by shifting the lyrics, which were previously overflowing with entitled male bullshit, to more acceptable things like, "Just have a good time!" and "We respect girls!"
God, it's awesome.
Literally I Can't, by Play-N-Skillz and featuring Redfoo, Lil Jon and some guy called Enertia McFly, copped immediate and widespread criticism upon its release for its overtly misogynistic lyrical themes, including the outright admission that the performers just want women to "shut the fuck up". Redfoo, as the most publicly visible of the responsible artists, has copped the brunt of the backlash, with calls emerging in the song's wake for him to be stepped down from his very role-model-ish position as a mentor on Channel Seven's reality show The X Factor.
