Eora-based 4-piece The Sooks have released their final single, Figure It Out, in the lead-up to their complete debut EP, Oyster Boy, out today.

Figure It Out is the idyllic beachside summer tune, the hook best yelled at the top of your lungs when in a drunken feel-good state, arms rested on the shoulders of your close mates. That sense of connectedness organically formed when bassist Jeremy Cassar wrote the song a cruise with friends one night.

“I was on this boy's trip, kickin’ it back with my friends, but, as corny as it might be, I missed my girlfriend,” he said in a press release.

“Midway through a big night out, I remember the chorus melody and lyrics just came to life in my head, and I knew I had to jot it down ASAP. So I ran back to my room where it was more quiet, and quickly recorded a voice memo so that I wouldn't forget it,”

“I brought it to the boys and we fleshed it out…the boys were really shocked that I (the bassist who usually doesn’t even want to sing backing vocals) would write and sing a song we all liked. Who would have thought a drunken melody would turn into an actual song we’d end up recording?”

Figure It Out is a testament to the flow state that The Sooks have dialled in on heavily in anticipation of the release of their EP Oyster Boy.

The 6-track project explores the naivety and playfulness of basking in your youth – seeing friends, going out, and navigating the ups and downs that come with love and relationships. It’s boyish and endearing storytelling that is best served with a cold drink, the ambience of a cool breeze, and the sun on your face.

According to the band themselves, Figure It Out is a song experienced wholly through sweaty sing-a-longs at their live shows, so here’s where you can catch the boys in the coming months.
