Melbourne's The Sand Dollars are in the midst of touring around the country right now (presented by The Music & Mayfair). But touring aside, there's something else I'd like to talk about; the music video for their most recent single, 'Silence Is Gold'.
Now, 'Silence Is Gold', as a song, is a chirpy indie, surf rock tune that would be perfect for Spring if wasn't for all of this goddamned rain (well, in my neck of the woods, anyway). It's a simple, but an oddly catchy song and I love the lead guitar riffs. However, 'Silence Is Gold', as a music video, is so much more effective.
The film clip is at first a feel-good tale of four schoolyard friends ditching school/families/the responsibilities of modern society to get away for a day in an abandoned industrial area (as you do). After a fun, chill day of messing around and enjoying their youthful freedom, their bliss is shattered when they find a dead body on their way home during the night. When approached by a figure in the dark, they pull a Scooby-Doo and leg it out of there. However, as they're chased back by this individual (implied to be the killer), one of the girls in the group is captured and pulled away as her friends flee without going back for her and then...credits.
Ah, cheery stuff.

Now, such an ambiguous, almost anti-climactic end can be forgiven in my eyes as there is more to the story on the way, as this is only part one of five. In all sincerity, I'm excitedly awaiting to see what The Sand Dollars do next with their repertoire of songs and this narrative. Just please don't cock it up, guys?
Also, yes, I am well aware that this song has been out for almost a month now but I only just found out about it yesterday so let me have my fun.
You can find the...killer clip below. (Oh god, if only I was paid to make shitty puns, how rich I would be!). Check out the band's aforementioned upcoming tour dates below. Tickets here and the event page can be found here.
