More The Saints More The Saints

Due to overwhelming demand, The Saints have added four more shows to their upcoming Australian tour.

With a line-up starring original band members, guitarist Ed Kuepper and drummer Ivor Hay, The Saints will be accompanied by Mudhoney singer Mark Arm, Sunnyboys bassist Peter Oxley, and former Bad Seeds/The Birthday Party guitarist Mick Harvey - rebranding as The Saints ‘73-‘78.

The tour was set to hit Adelaide, Castlemaine, Melbourne, Fremantle, Sydney, and Brisbane this November, but with five shows already sold out, The Saints are ready for more.

Sharing the love around, they’ve added three brand-new locations to the list: Hobart’s Odeon Theatre on November 27, Anita’s Theatre in Thirroul on November 29, and The Green Room in Byron Bay on November 30.

Brisbane is now the luckiest city on the tour, getting a third show added to their repertoire at the Princess Theatre (November 25).

Tickets for the new shows go on sale this Thursday, July 18, at 12 pm via Feel Presents. All available tickets for the original shows are on sale now.

The band is set to showcase the albums (I’m) Stranded (1977), Eternally Yours (1978) and Prehistoric Sounds (1978) on this tour.

Commenting on this in a press release, Kuepper said, “We'll be concentrating exclusively on material from and around the first three albums, including stuff that hasn't been performed live in Australia before... or, at least, for a pretty long time...  very much looking forward to this. Catch us if you can, pop fans.”

The tour has not been without controversy, with the estate of The Saints’ late frontman, Chris Bailey, questioning the decision to reform the band without their consent.

“Chris Bailey's Family and the Chris Bailey Estate have questioned the decision to reform The Saints with Mark Arm from Mudhoney replacing Chris Bailey on vocals,” the statement from Chris Bailey’s estate read.

“Neither the late singer's family, nor the Chris Bailey Estate, were informed or consulted on this decision. We are surprised that Mark Arm agreed to do this without consultation. The Chris Bailey Estate owns The Saints name and our primary objective is to honour Chris Bailey’s memory and the Saints significant legacy with integrity.”
