The Rubens To Celebrate 10 Years Of 'Hoops' With Three Special Shows

Do you remember where you were when you first heard The Rubens’ album, Hoops? What about when they won the triple j Hottest 100 with the smash-hit title track?

This August, fans will get to re-live the release of Hoops with three shows only to celebrate the album’s tenth anniversary. The Rubens will pay tribute to Hoops with three nights at Oxford Art Factory’s Main Room in Sydney on Friday, 22 August, Saturday, 23 August, and Sunday, 24 August. The band will be joined by special guests MISSO, and additional acts will be announced for the shows.

Pre-sale tickets will be available on Monday, 23 June, at 8 am AEST ahead of the general sale at 8 am AEST on Tuesday, 24 June. You can sign up for tickets here.

Upon its release in 2015, Hoops took The Rubens from an emerging indie rock act to #2 on the ARIA Albums Chart and quickly became one of Australia’s favourite live bands. Plus, the title track took the crown on triple j’s Hottest 100, solidifying their conquering impact on Australian culture.

For the Hoops tenth anniversary shows, The Rubens will perform fan-favourites from the album in a career-spanning setlist that spotlights their impressive growth over the last decade. In addition to celebrating ten years of Hoops, The Rubens will help celebrate 18 years of the Oxford Art Factory.

In a recent interview with The Music, The Rubens vocalist Sam Margin reflected on the legacy of Hoops on his and his bandmates’ lives. He said, “It changed our lives. We were so happy and excited when that song won Hottest 100.”

He quipped, “I remember being famous for about a week after Hoops came out. I remember I couldn’t go into General Pants Co. because it would just be annoying.”
