The Rubens’ Album Goes Platinum With 70K Sales

Sydney band look to second album

More The Rubens The Rubens Profile

Sydney band The Rubens' self-titled debut album has been officially certified platinum, meaning it has racked up 70,000 sales.

Announce by the band's label Ivy League today, they join other platinum-accredited local artists from 2013 including Flume and Hilltop Hoods.

“To achieve a platinum album in this day and age is a massive achievement, and they thoroughly deserve it,” Ivy League's Director Pete Lusty said today. “Not only are they an amazing band, they're great people, and we love working with them. Ivy League's ethos from the start has always been to sign music we love made by people we like, and The Rubens fulfil both of those criteria perfectly. We can't wait for the next album.”

Fuelled by singles like Lay It Down and My Gun, it has been a breakout year for the band who've supported Bruce Springsteen at Hanging Rock and completed tours of their own. They play the Falls Festival this summer before joining Springsteen again at the New South Wales Hunter Valley shows.

The band have begun writing and demoing for their second album, which they aim to release late 2014.

Frontman Sam Margin said, “It's been an amazing year and we're so stoked to have reached platinum status on our debut record! We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who bought a copy of the record and who came to see us play over the past couple years – we couldn't have done any of it without you. We are so grateful for your support and look forward to more good times in the future.”
