The Melbourne artist has three dates lined up in October and November

More The Outdoor Type More The Outdoor Type

Lauded Melburnian troubadour The Outdoor Type has unleashed his rollicking new single, Rumination, ahead of a three-date east-coast tour in late October and early November.

The buoyant, infectious slice of indie-rock sophistication follows last year's self-titled debut EP, which introduced eager ears to the emergent talent by way of his early singles, When The Sun Goes Down and Are You Happy. The work was so well received, in fact, that it pretty swiftly led to The Outdoor Type picking up a recording and publishing deal with US-based indie powerhouse Nettwerk Records, joining his country-mates in Boy & Bear and Hermitude on the esteemed label's roster, as well as picking up management with Wonderlick Entertainmenet (Boy & Bear, Montaigne, The Paper Kites).

Backed by a live band of musicians, The Outdoor Type — the central figure of whom is musician Zack Buchanan — brought the track to life with assistance from producer John Castle (Cub Sport, Vance Joy, Dustin Tebbutt) and mixer Steven Schram (San Cisco, Tigertown, Tiny Little Houses).

"The song is about the nature of the modern, routine-driven, fast-paced, nine-to-five, mortgage-till-you-die time that we live in," Buchanan said of the new track in a statement. "It's a rejection of that — and, at the same time, a want to prove to yourself, or to others, that you are capable of all those things."

If you're digging the sounds on offer, you won't have to wait too long for the chance to catch The Outdoor Type in action; his east-coast tour starts with a free-entry show in Sydney, at Oxford Art Factory's Gallery Bar, on Friday 28 October, taking in a follow-up freebie at Brisbane's Black Bear Lodge the next night, 29 October, and a third and final tour show — a ticketed one — at Grace Darling Hotel on Friday 4 November. The band have also been announced aboard the line-up for this year's NYE On The Hill event next to The Preatures, Columbus, Mosquito Coast and more.
