The OffspringOne of the many, many, many massive acts that Soundwave have secured for its 2013 event is Southern Californian radio-punk heroes The Offspring and this afternoon the band has announced they are going to play three sideshows along the east coast of the country as well as the sold-out festival dates.
What's even more exciting than that is that the band will be playing their 1992 albumIgnitionin full at these sideshows, in celebration of the album's 20th anniversary. The album received an enormous response upon its release right in the middle of the grunge explosion, the album something of a slow-burn, bringing new fans in slowly for a number of years until their big commercial breakthroughSmashtook them to the next level in 1994.
Some of the band's older fans who haven't been altogether supportive of the band's somewhat more pop-inspired newer material ought to find this news very exciting. It promises to be a wonderful trip down memory lane and reports from recent overseas shows say that the band are in fine form at the moment.
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are the lucky cities to get shows on this run, here are the dates.
Wednesday 6 March – The Palace, Melbourne
Friday 8 March – Enmore Theatre, Sydney (all ages)
Saturday 9 March – The Hi-Fi, Brisbane
