The Music launches gig guide app - with benefits

The Music and theMusic.com.au have today launched a free mobile app across IOS with Android to follow 1 July.

The newly developed The Music App is a gig guide app that also includes news, reviews, interviews and other content from theMusic.com.au.

Available from the app store now, the app is the most comprehensive music event listing service in Australia, with currently over 6,000 gigs featured.

“Launching an app is something we've wanted to do and worked on for a long time,” said The Music's Managing Editor Andrew Mast. “We love that people are now able to search their favourite venues, keep track of their favourite artists and – most important for those visiting an unfamiliar city – get directions to live music anywhere in the country.

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

"Coupling this with reviews, interviews and live music news ensures that the app is not just a resource for events but also a great read.”

Leigh Treweek, The Music's Marketing Director, added, “Our readers are passionate music people, they live and breathe music and nothing beats seeing it live. Our app is all about getting people out and about seven nights a week because there is always a gig on. Most of all, The Music App is about supporting every show, every venue everywhere.”

He added, “Hit the 'Your Night Starts Here' button, get out, catch a gig and if you find me I will buy you a beer – just look out for the bearded bald guy wishing he was up on stage”

The app launch partners include Carlton Dry, Melbourne's 13CABS, Triple M Brisbane and UBER.

A survey of theMusic.com.au's readers found that there was demand for an all-encompassing live music guide in app form and the features of The Music App reflect their suggestions.

“Readers wanted certain features around favourites venues and artists,” says Treweek, “but most of all they wanted a single source to go to which listed all the gigs in their town and we think we have achieved this.

“Almost 50 percent of our web traffic comes via a mobile device so the dedicated app was an obvious next step for us.”

As well as the instant nearby gigs, comprehensive search functions and dedicated venue and artists pages, the app is updated daily with theMusic.com.au's latest breaking news, album and live reviews and interviews.

The app's developer Pete Kavanagh of DotPete said, “It was great to work with The Music on this app, which I think music lovers around the country will find invaluable.”

The launch of the app adds to The Music's portfolio of digital assets, including theMusic.com.au and the music industry's premier daily email newsletter Your Daily SPA.

The Music also releases weekly physical magazines in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
