The veteran outfit make their return to the spotlight with three intimate shows in a couple of months' time
Rest easy, The Living End fans — it turns out frontman Chris Cheney has more left in the tank than Beatles tribute shows after all, as the legendary Aussie rock trio announce today their return to headline touring with three intimate east-coast shows this October and November.
The veteran act will be gracing Canberra's ANU Bar, Wollongong's Waves and Sydney's Metro Theatre between October 30 and November 6, but — unusually, for this sort of revelation — there's not any special or explicit reason behind the appearances; they probably just missed your faces and the way they would melt with glee in the band's presence.
The last time we saw The Living End in such a setting was December 2012, when they knocked out the epic Retrospective Tour, which saw them tackle each of their six full-length studio efforts over seven nights in five cities around the country — and smash the Corner Hotel's record for consecutive shows, after they played a casual 11 on the trot. We've not been totally without a headline The Living End set since — they appeared at the eleventh hour on this year's Soundwave bill — but it will certainly be the most extensive chance, in the most intimate setting, you've had for a little while.
With work currently under way on their seventh full-length album — now three years out from most recent effort The Ending Is Just The Beginning Repeating, and due for release next year some time — it's reasonable for fans to expect to find Cheney and cohorts Andy Strachan (drums) and Scott Owen (double bass) in re-energised spirits for a set of shows dripping with nostalgia and excitement for the future.
