The Kooks Drop New Single And Video

The Brit-rockers get cinematic with their clip for 'Around Town'

More The Kooks More The Kooks

British indie poppers The Kooks have launched the clip for smooth 'n' jangly new single Around Town, and – like its creative influences Luc Besson and Quentin Tarantino – you're either going to love it or hate it.

Mostly, that will come down to the nigh three-minute introductory narrative scene featuring Christopher Fairbank (The Fifth Element, Alien 3, one of the Joker's henchmen in 1989's Batman) and Oldboy actress Pom Klementieff and directed by Ryan Hope, who has previously completed clips for 2 Chainz, London Grammar and Bombay Bicycle Club. It's either novel and a bit – pardon the word – kooky, or it's entirely pretentious and unnecessary, depending on your standpoint, but it's not like having video clips with narratives is a new idea, so why not extend that to have a little exposition at the start? We can at least see where they're coming from with this.

The track is taken from The Kook's upcoming fourth studio full-length Listen, which is set to drop August 29 through Virgin/EMI. Preorders are available on iTunes now, a purchase of which will net you an instant download of the album's first single, Down, plus new cut Bad Habit. The album will have two available versions – a standard, 11-track edition and a deluxe, 15-track edition.
